When she joined Harlem RBI last year, seventh grader Julissa had never played softball. She struggled to get up to speed with her teammates on the Jaguars, many of whom had been playing for years. Julissa focused on learning the rules of the game and put in the extra practice time. She also brought a great attitude. In short order, Julissa became a star both on the field and in study hall. Always ready to make the play, cheer on a teammate or help others with a homework problem, Julissa's efforts have paid off. In her very first year at Harlem RBI, the Jaguars nominated her to the Harlem RBI Youth Leadership Council and she claimed her team's Most Valuable Player Award.
